Manzomthombo Science - Career Day: 13 April 2018
On 13 April 2018, the Petroleum Agency SA (PASA) in collaboration with the Upstream Training Trust (UTT) held a science-career-day-event at Manzomthombo Senior Secondary school in Mfuleni Township, Blue Downs. The event was attended by approximately hundred and forty grade 10 to 12 learners mainly from the Geography, Maths and Science classes, few teachers and six employees from PASA.
The event was designed to empower the young minds with scientific knowledge that will transform their thinking and motivate them to realise their dreams. This was achieved by explaining scientific (mostly geological) concepts at a basic and practical level in order to make it easy for them to understand and follow their lessons in class.
The day was structured as follows
- Opening and introductions.
- Presentation on different careers in the oil and gas industry and information on the UTT bursary programme.
- Geologists provided technical information on Geology and Geosciences as fields of study with a demonstration of rocks and relevant maps.
- A video presentation on the story of oil and gas that traces and explains the entire oil and gas value chain, from formation to end-use, with an explanation of all the different careers in between.
